An American Depositary Receipt (ADR) - a registered security issued by a U.S. bank but representing shares of a foreign stock - offers U.S. investors a convenient way to add global exposure to their portfolios*. ADRs can be bought or sold just like the stock of U.S. companies, and ADR trades clear and settle just like U.S. stock trades.
*International investing should not be considered a complete investment program. Investing in foreign markets entails greater risks than those normally associated with domestic markets, such as political, currency, economic and market risks. Although ADRs are traded in U.S. dollars, their prices are indirectly influenced by currency fluctuations.
